The Purpose of Life

Scriptures: Isaiah 38:1-4; Luke 13:6-9

Reversing the Decision (Turning the Decision Around)

The scriptures above reference two stories in the Bible about reversing decisions. One comes from King Hezekiah who is given a death sentence, but later God reverses his decision and adds fifteen years to Hezekiah’s life. The other story is of a dresser who asks for one more year to prepare a fig tree to bear fruit and avoid being cut down. Like Hezekiah, you can sometimes go to God on your own. But other times, like in the parable of the fig tree, we need someone to assist on our behalf. We need someone to recognize that there is something in us—that we have a purpose a reason to live. When your purpose is ‘ someone needs me, ‘I am needed, it can give you a reason to survive the accident, the plane crash , the divorce , the trials of life.

The will to live is a psychological force that ‘ fights for survival.

The late Pastor Miles Monroe once said that the greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without a purpose. Everyone should know their purpose. Do you know what you are here for? Your purpose protects you and gives you a reason to fight to survive here on Earth. Like Hezekiah, you don’t have to accept a death sentence. If you are a child of God, the Lord will let you live as long as you desire. We all have to die but not now! Roll up your sleeves and fight for your survival. You have a purpose. You are needed here on Earth. Your purpose will keep you alive. You have the power to reverse the decision.
