Worse Comes Before Better

Subtitle: God Turns Things Around

Scriptures: Exodus 5:1; Genesis 1:1-5; Isaiah 60:1-3; Ecclesiastes 7:7

One of God’s principles is that things get worse before they get better. Lazarus, Job, and Moses could all testify that bad things happened before the good. Jesus waited until Lazarus’ situation started stinking before he stepped in. God does the same thing for us. He will not do for us what we can do for ourselves. He waits until we can’t handle it; then, he steps in to flex his muscles so that he receives the glory. He does his best work when things are at their worst. Even in the beginning, darkness preceded light (Genesis 1:1-5). Like the stars, God shines brighter in the darkness; he is the light. And he expects the same from us. When he created us, he worked in reverse. The Lord predestinated our lives—orchestrating a victorious ending before rewinding to the beginning. He did not program us for failure but for success. No matter how dark our situation is—we have to search for the bright side. We cannot wave the flag of surrender to the enemy. Find the good in your worst situations. God knows where you are and how much you can bear. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

You may be in your midnight hour right now (darkness always precedes light), but joy is coming in the morning!
