Apostle John W. Horne., D.D

Powerful, compelling, and life-changing: these are just of a few words that could be used to describe the dynamic ministry of Apostle John W. Horne, Jr. As pastor of one of the most exciting churches in Central Texas, Apostle Horne is a humble visionary with an insatiable desire to fulfill God’s divine purpose for his life.

In 1976 Apostle John W. Horne was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at Full Gospel Holy Temple of Forth Worth, Texas. After faithfully serving under the late Elder A. W. Holland and experiencing the phenomenal ministry of Apostle Lobias Murray (Overseer of Full Gospel Holy Temple Churches, Inc.), God called his dedicated servant to the pastoral ministry. Not knowing a single soul in Austin, Texas, Apostle Horne obeyed the voice of God and established the Full Gospel Holy Temple Church of Austin in June of 1985. The Lord truly blessed Apostle John W. Horne’s obedience, as souls were continuously added to the church.

Apostle Horne, a diligent and compassionate leader, fervently strives to help those in need. He and his beautiful wife since 1972, First Lady Barbara J. Horne, are the president and vice-president of Austin We Care, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing clothing, groceries, and toys to at least 100 families in need during the Christmas holiday season.

Apostle John W. Horne has also been recognized and received numerous awards from the community including: The Unsung Hero award from State Farm and KFIT Radio; recognition by state representatives Dawnna Dukes and Lloyd Doggett; Hometown Hero Award from KEYE 42 TV; Black Male Role Model Honoree by Austin’s Villager Newspaper; runner-up for Pastor of the Year by KFIT radio; National Registry of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals, and has been featured in Gospel Today as one of the World’s Most Loved Pastors.

To name a few: Power Through Fasting and Prayer; God’s Way to Greatness; When Pillars Get Weak; The Will of God Concerning You; and Keys to a Successful Ministry. Born from adversity, these books were written to encourage, inspire, and offer spiritual guidance to those experiencing similar challenges in their Christian walk.

On July 22, 2006, during the Full Gospel Holy Temple Annual Holy Convocation, Austin and San Antonio F.G.H.T. joined their fellowship churches in celebrating the promotion of Pastor John W. Horne to the office of a bishop by Apostle Lobias Murray for his faithful years of service and for working well within the ministry.

Subsequently, because of his hard work, dedication to God’s word and his people, and his faithfulness, Apostle John W. Horne was nominated for, and awarded, the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from St. Thomas Christian College of Jacksonville, Florida on February 22, 2009.
